Tell us a bit about House of Bacia.
Haus of Bacia is clothing business dealing in a vast number of international brands from Fashionnova, prettylittlething, isawitfirst, shein, tobi, misguided and so many affordable international brands.

Tell us about yourself.
Mary Bacia is my name, a happily married woman and a mother of three handsome boys. I’m of Lugabara origin, born and raised in Uganda. I moved to the UK in my mid 20’s and it’s been my home for the past 20 years, although I come to Uganda every year to keep a close connection with my people.

Can you provide me with a description of your business?.
The business is currently only online, but am working tirelessly behind the scenes to set up a shop to make it more accessible for people who prefer to try on fits before they buy and avail a better shopping experience.

How did you come up with an online store?
It’s something I have wanted to do for a long time and once my boys grew up I had more time to myself and they advised me to start with online to get things moving, but with a main foresight of a shop which with time will mature into an independent clothing line of its own.

How old is House of Bacia?
Haus of Bacia is a very new business that’s only three months old, started in March.

Do you know who your competitors are?
I do have an idea of who my competitors are and the years of experience they have, but the support system I and a steady progression, I am sure I can handle the heat. There is enough for everyone in this world to eat, although you must be flexible and creative to adjust to the environment.

How did you get the background and skills necessary to run House of Bacia?
I had a mother who loved fashion. Born in a very humble Kakuwa tribe, her parents were poor and could never afford to buy luxury fashionable clothes.  When she eventually married and had 3 three daughters, I as the middle one, she dressed as very fashionably. This passed down to me and my kids who grew up very trendy too. With a family that’s got a lot of interest in fashion, it’s more of a collective idea build with critical calculative analysis and projection of the professionalism I have gained over the years in the UK.

How do you market your business? How are people aware of House of Bacia?
Currently doing marketing on social media, most especially Instagram but pushing to other social media platforms and media platforms like newspapers, tv going forward. Awareness is picking up since it’s a very young business, but nothing to complain about.

Where do you see House of Bacia in the next two years?
In the next two years I see Haus of Bacia with a running shop and starting to transform into a clothing line of its own.

How has technology, impacted on how you conduct business?
Technology has been my go-to since the business is currently online, so without technology I don’t think I would be where am at right now, the downside is that Africa does not really depend on technology.

Can you describe your customers?
The target market is pretty much women from 16-55, it could be a dress for prom, co-operative events, dinner, night-out, birthday, church, changing dress. So basically, I want to avail a variety of designs.

What are the biggest issues for running this business?
The biggest issue is creating awareness. It’s going to take a bit of work and effort to get the word out there.
